What is Brix?
Developed by the German chemist Adolf Brix, the Brix scale is the measure of sugar in a liquid.

Winemakers look for a certain level of Brix before harvesting grapes. For example, if grapes were picked at 20 degrees brix they consist of 20% sugar.
Brix Wine Scale:
  • Champagn and Sparkling Wines 18brix
  • Light, fruit forward White Wines 20brix
  • Drier and more oaky White Wines 22brix
  • Light, fruit forward Red Wines 24brix
  • Heavier robust Red Wines 26brix
  • Full, spicy and complex Wines 28brix
  • Ultra sweet Wines and Ice Wines 30brix
